Pokharan

Destination Pokharan is located on the halfway of the well known cities of Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jodhpur. Once it was the capital of the chief of Marwar. Functioning as a centre for the Indian Nuclear detonation, it came in international limelight. Not thickly populated, it is a peaceful place. The craftsmen here are highly skilled in making beautiful furniture and other interior crafts which can really give a royal look to your house.

Walk into the massive Pokharan Fort and reward yourself with the awe-inspiring sights of brocade dresses of the then Maharajas, the royal weapons and many dice games which reflect the taste of the Maharajas. You can even stay in the fort as it has now been converted into a Heritage Hotel.

On your tour to Pokharan you will come across several huge havelis which may look rough from outside but have lavish interiors. The windows of the havelis have wonderful architecture as they are decorated with peacocks, elephants and parrots which look so real.

Pokharan can be accessed from the nearest Jodhpur and Jaisalmer airports. It can also be reached in car from Jodhpur in around three hours. It takes only one hour from Jaisalmer.
