Bundi Fort, BundiBundi is noted for its architectural splendour with forts, luxury palaces, the Bundi style of miniature paintings and finely carved stepwells.

The town of Bundi is unique in the region as it is surrounded by a wall with four gateposts. Off the beaten track of a typical royal Rajasthan itinerary, Bundi has plenty to offer to the discerning traveler.

It was ruled by the Hada Chauhans and has history going back to at least the 12th century. Many wars were fought with the Mughals and other marauders and their influence can easily be seen in the culture and crafts of Bundi. The forts and palaces have a romantic air about them. Above all, Bundi is known for its distinct style of miniature paintings that are made with ecofriendly vegetable and mineral dyes.

Bundi lying 37 km north of Kota is a picturesque little town and lies in a narrow valley in the Aravallis. Bundi is known for its intricately carved paintings and murals. Legend has it that in the 12th century, nobles of the martial Chauhan clan conquered the Bhil and Meena tribals of these areas. Kota was a part of Bundi till its separation in 1624.

The Taragarh Fort, or 'Star Fort' is undoubtedly the star attraction of Bundi. Constructed in 1354 AD, it provides a magnificent view of the city below. The fort has three tanks which never dry up.

Other attractions include the Bundi Palace situated on the adjacent hillside and famous for its lavish traditional murals and frescoes.

The charms of Bundi also include its many Baolis or stepwells that are noted for their stone carvings. Other attractions include the Nawal Sagar lake, the Dabhai Kund, Sukh Mahal, Jait Sagar Lake, Phool Sagar and Kshar Bagh.

There are many attractions around Bundi. These include the Kedareshwar Dham (Bag Ganga), Keshoraipatan, Ramgarh, Bijolia, Menal, Talwas, Rameshwaram and Dugari. The town of Chittaugarh is also nearby.
